Checklist for Selecting and Evaluating Multicultural Picture Books
Exposing dual language learners to a diversity of book will help them expand their vocabulary. Classroom libraries should contain books that students can relate to because of their culture, language, religion or gender. Providing students with a correct set of multicultural books will help promote literacy in the classroom. This checklist for selecting and evaluating multicultural picture books will help teachers and parents decide which books will help students interpret the text in a deeper level by discussing with peers, teachers or parents. When students are provided with books they are interested in and they will be more likely to pick the book and read.
